Well, I saw GP yesterday, she is new to the practice and I hadn't seen her before. I explained about the leg and she looked at it and said that as its very red and hot, and the back is tender I must go straight away to A&E for blood tests as she thought it was possibly a DVT. I said I thought it was connected to the RA and also with coming off steroids etc. Anyway, off I went with little Amelie and my sister in tow. My feet are both very swollen, and the swelling goes half way up my legs, the right one being worse.
Waited to be seen initially for around 30 mins, the another hour and half to get blood results. Finally they came back borderline, which the doctor said often happens with auto immune diseases, but I must have a scan. This cant be done until next day.
Off I go again, had scan, no sign of DVT. Go back to GP to find out what is wrong(??!!!) I already tried that!! Came home and went to bed at 2pm until almost 6 pm so too late to call GP
Tomorrow I will make another appt, the thing is do I see the same one, or try to get to see my usual one(s) but then it takes around 2 weeks to see a certain one. I dont want to leave it that long. Any suggestions? At the moment I feel ill, joints hurting, and some swollen. It was agony walking to the hospital from the bus stop and back. Tomorrow I have the kids back, so busy day. What shall I do??

Hi Barbara, I had exactly the same thing, second doctor I saw after my trip to A & E gave me a depo injection into my bum (ouch!!)
Had to rest and try keep my leg raised for as much as possible over the next 24 hours. This helped and the swelling settled down.
Ask your GP or Rheumy nurse about this injection I'm sure it'll help.
Take care and get your feet up. Kathleen xx

Hi Barbara,

I agree with Kathleen, you should be resting with your feet up!
I know you don't want to let people down but you can't be looking after kids when you are as bad as this. You really are not well enough to be working and should definitely be seen by a doctor tomorrow.
Is your rheumy nurse helpline any good? Would they get back to you tomorrow? If so, it might be best to ring and explain how you are feeling, otherwise try to get a GP appointment for tomorrow.
Hope you can get some help with this soon Barbara.

Love, Doreen xx

Thank you Kathleen and Doreen, I think its the RA too, but I dont suppose many GPs have much knowledge of it. Will call tomorrow to get an emergency appt for tomorrow evening, this meaning I could see anyone who is on call for the emergency appts. I know I should rest, but I cant let them down without warning, so will work tomorrow, my next door neighbour has invited me and the kids into play with her little one, so that will mean I dont have to be doing so much, and also wont be going out. Let's hope they listen. My rheumy nurses usually take a few days to reply. I did call them when this first started, but she called me back and said that she didnt think it was anything and to just see a GP. Maybe I'll call them too, and say I really need a reply quickly, when I was quite ill before, I had a blood test at the hospital and the consultant saw me waiting, and asked how I felt, then said he wanted to see me. He then put me back on pred at 20mg, coming down to 5mg, then off, which causes the problems. A depo doesnt seem to work on me, maybe as I cant normally rest much. Anyway, fingers crossed ladies, thank youSmile

Hi Barbara

I think the time has to come to rest whether you like it or not! You really are running a risk of permanent joint damage if things get out of control. Each time the RA flares is 'danger' time it's a warning that you need to stop. From the sounds of it you need something very quickly to get it under control, which may mean, if coming off prednisolone is a problem, you stay on a low maintenance dose of about 5mg. Surely people will understand that you are not letting them down ... you are ill! You have to put yourself first!

Take care Barbara, let us know how you go on,

YOU MUST BE WORSE BY HAVING TO WORK .
I would had thought you would be loads better not working .

So you can rest at the right times .As O.T says joints are worse at certain times of day .
So she wrote me a rotine .If i do my own rotine i am dreadfull

Do the O.T rotine and good days all round .
Ot taught me how to rest .That makes a lot of diffance and how to plan when i am out and rest sitting at a coffee table out somewhere .

So tough luck to work .Though i do stuff at my own pace like my vol work and helping out my friend .
